Tift County Commissioner Melissa Hughes will serve as President on the 2022-2023 Association County Commissioners of Georgia (ACCG) Board of Managers.
Hughes was recently sworn in by former state Representative and 2022 Gubernatorial Candidate Stacey Abrams during the installation luncheon at this year’s ACCG Annual Conference in Chatham County.
“Elected by their peers each spring, the ACCG Board of Managers is a group of dynamic leaders that serve as decision makers on behalf of our organization,” said Executive Director Dave Wills. “I would like to congratulate our newly installed Board and look forward to working alongside them to continue the work of advancing Georgia’s counties.”
In this new role, Hughes will work directly with Dave Wills and the full Board of Managers to lead the association and guide policies over the next year.
The Board will continue to work on issues which focus on increasing county efficiencies, enhancing continuing education offerings and fostering strong relationships between counties, the state, and federal government.
Prior to becoming President, Hughes rose through the ranks as an officer beginning as Third Vice President in 2019.
As First Vice President, she chaired the association’s 2022 Policy Council helping lead and direct the consensus building efforts regarding policy positions undertaken by all 159 counties.
Prior to becoming an officer, Hughes served as the 11th District Representative on the Board of Managers where she worked on behalf of her fellow county officials in South Georgia.
“I am extremely excited to serve as ACCG President. As I stated in my message at my installation, we are all a piece of the puzzle. If one piece of the puzzle is missing, the puzzle is not complete. This rings truth in life and politics. It is about the relationships we build, the friendships we continue; always giving the best of ourselves and being strong for others. I envision continuing the thriving legacy of improving our counties similar to those of past Presidents. The foundation has been laid, I aim to align myself with those who have similar passions of service for this great state.” said ACCG President Melissa Hughes.
