Chris Bassitt and the entire Mets dugout looked surprised when the righty was called for a balk on a pitch that would have resulted in a strikeout to Rhys Hoskins on Sunday, but after the game, Bassitt said he wasn’t all that surprised about the call.

Rather, he was more surprised that the umpire caught it.

“It was a balk. I didn’t get an explanation, because I knew it was a balk,” Bassitt said after the game.

“When he caught me, I was like, 'good job.’”

Scherzer was seen maniacally laughing about the call from the dugout, while Buck Showalter clearly didn’t agree with the call. But Bassitt did, explaining that even if his hands did come set before the pitch, his feet were moving a bit too much on the rubber.

“It wasn’t so much my glove,” Bassitt said. “A lot of people were focusing on my glove, but it was, I have a little happy feet.”

Bassitt went on to strike Hoskins out anyway and escape the first-inning jam, so no harm done.
