Teacher Feature: Claire Haight emphasizes students’ unique characteristics
After teaching for five years in Ouachita Parish, Claire Haight returned home to Lincoln Parish last year. She is now in her second year of teaching first grade in Simsboro. Haight grew up in Ruston and graduated from Cedar Creek School. From there, she went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Louisiana Tech University in elementary education Grades 1-5 and special education. Haight also recently completed her master’s in educational leadership from Louisiana State University in Shreveport.

Brown leads Simsboro girls to 2-0 start in district
Ikeia Brown took over early and propelled the Simsboro High School Lady Tigers to a 60-24 home win over Forest Friday night in District 1-B action at the SHS Gym. When the 5-3 senior dynamo wasn’t forcing steal after steal against the Lady Bulldogs, Brown either went long or drove inside to put the ball in the basket during a 29-point performance that also showcased her major passing skills.

Woman arrested after taking car
An Arcadia woman was arrested Friday after she allegedly took an ex-boyfriend’s car, rammed a car containing two young children, and then left the scene. Grambling Police investigated a report of a vehicle theft on College Avenue. Officers were told Ar’Keciyah L. Ward, 20, was seen taking the car of her ex-boyfriend of three years.
