Hinton files to run for Jamestown Mayor; Coffey and Lawson file for city council

Jamestown interim mayor Regena Hinton has filed to run for mayor of the city in the November general election.

Hinton was appointed interim mayor after former mayor Nick Shearer accepted a position as the Executive Director of the Lake Cumberland Community Action Agency.

City Councilman Barry Coffey, who previously filed to run for mayor, has now withdrawn from the race, according to the County Clerk’s office. As of now, Hinton and Richard Bennett are the two candidates who have filed for the city’s top office.

On Friday, Coffey filed to run for Jamestown City Council.

In other candidate filings for the general election, interim city council member Ada Marcum-Lawson has filed to run for city council.

Lawson was appointed to the seat that was previously held by Hinton after Hinton took over as mayor.

Candidates running for non-partisan offices such as mayor and city council seats have until June 7 at 4 p.m. to file for those offices.
