When the New York Knicks signed Kemba Walker last offseason, the city thought their point guard problems were solved. Unfortunately, that’s just not the way the cookie crumbled.

Meanwhile, on the Memphis Grizzlies, while one point guard named Ja Morant stole the spotlight (and rightfully so), another one flew under the radar.

Well, what if those two stories were combined? The Knicks need a point guard, and the under-the-radar Memphis point guard could use a chance at an upgraded role. That could be the plan this summer.

According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the Knicks would be interested in Tyus Jones this summer if Jalen Brunson returns to the Dallas Mavericks. (H/T Bleacher Report)

Jones enjoyed a ton of success with the Grizzlies this season, averaging 8.7 points, 2.4 rebounds, and 4.4 assists while shooting 45.1% from the field and 39.1% from three-point land.

The Duke product played the role of Morant’s backup, and his per-36 numbers look even more impressive: 14.7 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 7.5 assists. If given the opportunity, Jones could be a quality starter in the NBA.

However, perhaps the most remarkable part of Jones’ game is his ability to take care of the basketball. Jones led the NBA in assist-to-turnover ratio, and it wasn’t even particularly close.

He ended the year with 324 total assists and just 46 total turnovers, coming out to an assist-to-turnover ratio of 6.4. The next-best mark was 5.1 (which was actually hit by his brother, Tre Jones, of the San Antonio Spurs).

Jones is confident enough to lead an offense, careful enough to do it effectively, and talented enough to help a team win games. All of those fit in perfectly with what the Knicks are trying to do.

Not only can he pass, but Jones can shoot, drive, and is an adequate defender. And at only 25 years old, he still has plenty of room to grow and improve in this league.

If given the chance, Jones would thrive on the Knicks. The signing would not only help him advance his career, but it would also help New York’s chances of making the playoffs.

While Jones may be hesitant to leave Memphis, taking over as the Knicks’ starting point guard could prove to be a life-changing choice that propels him into the next tier of NBA stars.
