The safest small 2022 SUVs don’t have to cost you an arm and a leg. In fact, they can be pretty affordable. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) tests a whole variety of vehicles to determine which are the safest. These are the small 2022 SUVs that the IIHS says are the safest – and the cheapest.

The 2022 Chevy Trailblazer is one of the cheapest and safest small 2022 SUVs

The 2022 Chevy Trailblazer wins the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award. To win the Top Safety Pick+ award, an SUV must have good ratings in the:

Driver-side small overlap front test
Passenger-side small overlap front test
Moderate overlap front test
Original side, roof strength, and head restraint tests
Advanced or Superior for available front crash prevention for both the vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian evaluations
Acceptable or good headlights standard on all trim levels

The 2022 Chevy Trailblazer price starts at $21,600 for the base model. If you want to max out your Trailblazer, opt for the Activ trim level, which starts at $26,895. There are two trim levels in between these two bookends, including the LT at $24,995 and the RS at $26,895.

The 2022 Trailblazer gets 29 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway. It has a decent amount of storage space – 54.4 cubic feet. All-wheel drive brings the price up, as do certain exterior colors. The Iridescent Pearl Tricoat, for example, will cost you an extra $645.

The 2022 Hyundai Tucson price starts at $24,950 and goes up to $37,500. There are seven trim levels and three engine options within that range, according to Edmunds, meaning you should be able to find something you’re looking for. The 2022 Hyundai Tucson SE is the base model Tucson, and it comes with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 187 hp. The SE also has 17-inch alloy wheels, LED headlights, and an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, along with a six-speaker sound system. This is compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

In addition, the SE has driver assistance features like driver attention warning, forward collision warning, and lane-keep assist. It also has rear seat reminder, which can help you remember that you left a child or a pet in the backseat.

The 2022 Nissan Rogue Sport is one of the cheapest and safest

The 2022 Nissan Rogue price starts at $27,875. That’s for the base model Rogue, which comes standard with a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine that makes 201 hp and 225 lb-ft of torque. Edmunds notes that that’s more than the 2021 Nissan Rogue, to the tune of an additional 20 hp and 44 lb-ft of torque. This engine may not be incredibly powerful, but it is fuel efficient. The base model Nissan Rogue gets 33 mpg.

In addition, the 2022 Nissan Rogue comes standard with important driver assistance features, like forward collision warning, blind-spot monitoring, and a head-up display. It’s also compatible with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Each of these 2022 SUVs are the cheapest and safest, making them great options for anyone in the market for a new small SUV.
