Mother's Day: John Travolta honors late Kelly Preston, Christina Haack 'blessed' amid son's health scare

Mother's Day was all about celebration and many stars honored the mothers in their lives with grand gestures, pregnancy announcements and fun videos to mark the occasion.

John Travolta posted a sweet tribute to his late wife Kelly Preston, who died of breast cancer in July 2020. The couple share Ella, 22, Benjamin, 11, and late son Jett.

The "Grease" alum shared a four-and-a-half-minute video to Barbara Streisand's "That Face" of moments between the couple including their wedding day in 1991, photos with their three children, red carpet appearances, magazine covers and more.

"We love and miss you Kelly. Happy Mother’s Day," Travolta captioned the post.

Christina Haack spends Mother's Day in the hospital

"Flip or Flop" alum Christina Haack revealed she spent Mother's Day in the hospital with her son Brayden El Moussa, 6, whom she shares with Tarek El Moussa.

"Brayden had to have an emergency appendectomy as well as removal of Meckel's diverticulum early this morning," she shared on Sunday. "Nothing like seeing your child in excruciating pain 😣..luckily the surgery went well and he is recovering and in good spirits."

She added: "Blessed to have 3 healthy + happy kids, caring family and friends and a husband who stands by my side. Happy Mother’s Day everyone."

Haack also shares Taylor El Moussa, 11, with her first husband and son Hudson, 2, with ex-husband Ant Anstead.

The HGTV star's husband Joshua Hall posted a lengthy tribute to Haack commending her for her "motherly instinct" to take Brayden to the emergency room.

"Christina never slowed, showed any sign of weakness and remained focused the whole time. She is currently without sleep for the last 33+ hours. She will rest again soon, but not until her job as a mom is complete," he wrote. "So we will always remember this Mother’s Day and I will always remember why God made Christina a mother, because she was made for it."

Denise Richards reunites with daughter Sami Sheen for Mother's Day

The former "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star Denise Richards spent Mother's Day with her daughter Sami Sheen.

Sami, 18, shared photos of the mother-daughter duo on Instagram, writing: "happy mother’s day !! i love u so much mom. u have no idea how grateful i am to have u in my life." 

The reunion between Richards and her daughter comes after the "RHOBH" star revealed on Sirius XM's "Jeff Lewis Live" that she had a "strained relationship" with Sami. "I know we'll get back to where we were eventually, but right now, it is strained," she said in February. 

Richards commented on her daughter's post, writing: "Thank you Sami for an amazing Mother’s Day. It means a lot to me. I know nana was at dinner with us she would never miss one of her favorite restaurants. Thank you & I love you so much."

Richards shares Sami, and daughter Lola, 16, with her ex-husband Charlie Sheen. 

For others, Mother's Day was doubly special.

Gabby Barrett announces second pregnancy

Country singer Gabby Barrett, who shares 1-year-old Baylah with singer Cade Foehner, revealed on Instagram that their family was growing. 

"My son," Barrett wrote alongside footage of the baby's ultrasound. "Another LIFE we get to love and cherish. Happy Mothers Day!"

Michelle Obama names exhibit at the Obama Presidential Center after mother

Michelle Obama celebrated her mom with a whole building.

The former first lady announced Friday with a social media video that she would be naming a new exhibit at the Obama Presidential Center after her mother, Marian Robinson. The "Opening the White House" exhibit, which will be dedicated to Robinson, will include replicas of some of the white house's main hosting spaces including the East Room, the Blue Room and the South Lawn. 

"My mother gave me that nonstop, unconditional love that was so important for me to grow up. In so many ways she fostered in me a deep sense of confidence in who I was and who I could be," Obama said in the video. 

Obama said the new exhibit will be "infused with so many of the values" her mother taught her: community, family, bringing people in and creating a welcoming space.

She also gave her mom a Mother's Day shout-out on Instagram Sunday, sharing a throwback photo of the two of them with Obama's daughters Malia and Sasha: "I’ve shared so much of her wisdom with my own daughters over the years," Obama wrote.

Joe Jonas, Justin Bieber, Kris Jenner, more stars honor the mom's in their life

Joe Jonas shared a photo of wife Sophie Turner sitting outside the British New York grocery store Myers of Keswick on his Instagram story. "Happy Mums Day," Jonas wrote. "you sexy lil British thang u!"

The Jonas Brothers member also wished his mother a happy Mother's Day with a cheeky Instagram video, which features Jonas sipping on a beverage while nodding his head to an acoustic cover of his brother Nick Jonas' song "Jealous." 

"Thinking about that time I took credit for my Moms toot in the car when I was 10. Wow. I really am the superior son," Jonas wrote.

Kylie Jenner reflected on being a "young mom" to Stormi, 4, and a 3-month-old baby boy (whose new name has yet to be disclosed). 

"Being a young mom just means we met a little early and I get to love you a little longer," she captioned a series of photos and videos of Stormi.

Halle Berry shared two photos with her former 5th grade teacher for Mother's Day.

"On Mother’s Day, not only do I reflect on what it truly means to be a mother — and the importance of a mother’s love — I also reflect on what it means to receive love from a mother and sometimes that love comes from 'another mother,'" Berry wrote.

She added: "Yvonne Sims has been my 'Other Mother' since she was my 5th grade teacher. Without her guidance, wisdom, patience and most importantly, her UNCONDITIONAL love for me in all the stages of my life, I’m not so sure I’d still be here. I love you, Yvonne Sims with all my heart!"

"Today, as we celebrate mothers, let’s also celebrate our 'OTHER MOTHERS!'" the actress concluded.

Berry also showed off her "Mother's Day BLING" on her Instagram Story of jewelry with her kids' names. The actress is a mother to daughter Nahla Ariela, 14, and son Maceo Robert, 8.

Mariah Carey shared photos of her Mother's Day celebrations including a yacht ride and a trip to Disneyland with her 11-year-old twins, son Morrocan and daughter Monroe. 

"Happy Mother’s Day to all the Mommies in the land!!!" the singer captioned her post. "Love yourself even more today..Standing ovations and Blessings upon Blessings to all!"

Reese Witherspoon shared a video of a candid chat she had with her mother Betty, who made a dramatic pause when the actress asked her mom what her favorite project is of hers.

"Happy Mother’s Day to all the unconditionally supportive Moms out there! Thinking of those who are missing theirs today," Witherspoon captioned the clip.

Kanye West upped his Mother's Day tribute with a music video to "Life of the Party," dedicated to his later mother Donda. It includes several photos from his childhood.

Odette and Dave Annable revealed they're expecting baby number two alongside a video of their daughter Charlie, 6, jumping with excitement after finding out she's about to have a sibling.

"What a beautiful way to celebrate @odetteannable, the soon to be mama of 2," Dave captioned the clip. "We certainly know Charlie is excited."

Odette shared the same video, writing, "It’s been a very long journey to get here, but we are here and we are thrilled and couldn’t be more grateful. A new chapter begins. A very special Mother’s Day indeed."

Dwyane Wade showed some love to his "forever date" Gabrielle Union with a video montage on Instagram.

"We (love) you," Wade wrote to his wife, to which Union replied with a series of crying face emojis.

Kris Jenner shared an adorable, black-and-white throwback photo of her posing with the Kardashian-Jenner clan on Instagram.

"Being a mother and grandmother is my greatest joy in life," Jenner wrote. "(Kourtney, Kim, Rob, Khloe, Kendall, Kylie) you are my purpose, my inspiration, my life, my very heart and soul!!! I thank God every day for making me your mom and for blessing me with so much love! I am so proud of each of you."

Jenner continued: "To my beautiful daughters who are mommies, (Kourtney, Kim, Khloe, Kylie), you all inspire me and teach me new things about motherhood every day. You are the best mommies and I couldn’t be more proud of you!"

Jenner also celebrated her mother Mary Joe Campbell in an Instagram post, calling her "my guiding light, my inspiration, my best friend."

Kylie Jenner took to Instagram to mark Mother's Day, sharing a photo and pair of videos of daughter Stormi, 4, on the beach. 

"Being a young mom just means we met a little early and i get to love you a little longer," Jenner wrote.

Australian model and mommy-to-be Shanina Shaik revealed Sunday she's expecting her first child, sharing glamorous shots of her growing baby bump.

"Thank you for choosing me to be your Mum," Shaik captioned the post. "I have always wanted you for as long as I can remember, and at times my patience was tested. The timing had to be right, and I can say with confidence that I am ready to be your guide, your protector and your best friend."

Shaik added: "Sharing you with the world today is the most precious gift I could possibly receive on Mother’s Day."   

Bryan Greenberg shared a sweet photo of wife Jamie Chung pushing a stroller with their 7-month-old twins. "Happy 1st #MothersDay @jamiejchung I know it’s been tough, but you’ve been taking it all in stride," he wrote. 

Laverne Cox posted a picture onstage with her mother at an award show and also paid tribute to other moms.

"I’ll always love my mama, she’s my favorite girl 🎶 #HappyMothersDay to ALL of you amazing mothers out there 💖," Cox captioned the photo.

Slash shared a photo hugging his "late, but always fantastic mom, Ola Hudson."

Halsey posted a series of photos with their 10-month-old daughter Ender Ridley Aydin and their mother.

Shay Mitchell, who is pregnant with her second child, posted a picture from a photoshoot with her 2-year-old daughter Atlas.

"For some of us this day is dedicated to how sweet it is to love or be loved unconditionally," Mitchell said in a lengthy tribute to mothers. "For others, this day is a reminder of the relationship they have longed to have, don’t have, or can’t have. While social media can have its upsides, days like today can feel dark and heavy for people who aren’t experiencing the public joy their friends are."

She continued: "Moms who are doing it alone and moms with a village of support, I celebrate each and every one of you."

Mitchell also stressed a message about a woman having a choice over becoming a mother, presumably in response to a leaked draft Supreme Court opinion that indicated the court may upend the 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade that established a constitutional right to abortion.

"At the end of the day, you should only become a mom if YOU want to become a mom. This very important decision should be just that. A choice," the actress said. "Atlas — home is wherever you are. Thank you for making me a mom."

"Real Housewives of Atlanta" star Kandi Burruss posted a photo twinning with her mother in black gowns and Vans. 

"Happy Mother’s Day to my mom! I love you so much & Im grateful for all that you’ve done to guide me, support me & instill in me everything I needed to be the woman I am today," Burruss captioned the picture. "Happy Mother’s Day to all the mothers who are reading this!"

Alicia Keys shared a silly video pushing her husband Swizz Beatz out of her room after he asked, "Who do you want to spend Mother's Day with?" In response, she sang her hit, "No One."

"Everyone knows how much I ADORE the love of my life @therealswizzz and my beautiful kids but a little alone time on this day is a beautiful gift," she captioned the clip. "Happy Mothers Day to all of us!! We give so much love everywhere we go!! Hope you can Enjoy some time for YOU."

The Backstreet Boys posted an Instagram gallery with the mothers of their children. 

"Wishing a very Happy Mother’s Day to our baby mommas and all the incredible moms in the Backstreet Army!" the band wrote.

Derek Hough shared a compilation video of him and his mother dancing to celebrate her.

"The joy my Mom exudes is so contagious. She loves to dance and I love dancing with her," Derek said.

Alfonso Ribeiro shared a group shot with his wife Angela, their children Alfonso Jr., 8, Anders, 7, and Ava, 2, and his oldest daughter Sienna, 19, whom he shares with ex-wife Robin Stapler.
