Outgoing Ward 2 City Councilor Lou Martin was honored at the May 2nd City Council meeting by Mayor Henderson, City Manager Joan Riley, and all the others in attendance.

In the proclamation written in his honor, Mayor Henderson recounted how Councilor Martin had “faithfully devoted twenty-eight years in public service,” during which he also served on the Sapulpa Municipal Authority, Sapulpa Development Authority, Sapulpa Planning Commission, and many others.

In 2011, Martin became Vice-Mayor, and held the position for a solid decade before becoming Mayor upon Reg Green’s passing in 2020. Later, in 2021, Martin was selected as a national winner of the 2021 Small Town America Volunteer Award, “distinguishing himself from the 700 nominations from forty-nine other states and bringing great honor to the City of Sapulpa,” the proclamation said.

Martin’s impact will hopefully continue to be felt in our town for years to come, as he said he’ll continue to be involved with his various organizations and committees, like Meals on Wheels, and disaster relief programs.

“I’m not going anywhere,” he said. “I’ll still be around.”
