Local athletes were in action over the weekend at the Dakota Relays, which are highlighted by Aberdeen Central's Sam Rohlfs and Potter County's relay teams.

Here's a look at some top performers from the area:

Rohlfs has short weekend, places second in long jump

Rohlfs was unable to match his personal best of 24 feet, 0.75 inches which he set earlier in the year at the Huron Invitational.

At the Dakota Relays, Rohlfs jumped 22-03  – which was good for second place behind Belle Fourche's Aiden Giffin.

After the event, Rohlfs shut his weekend down with a hamstring injury, after feeling tightness on his first long jump attempt.

In the 4x400 meter relay, Potter County took home first place in the Class B version of the event, edging out Colman-Egan by roughly two seconds.

The Battlers were led by Kirstie Lake, Rayel Persoon, Dannika Kaup and Emma Schlachter.

Lake, Kaup and Schlachter along with Jadyn Ahlemeier were part of a Battlers' relay team that took home second place in the Class B 4x800.

Kaup and Schlachter were also on a 1,600 sprint medley team with Makaivry Schatz and Taylyn Rausch, who claimed third place.

Merxbauer, relay teams lead Golden Eagles

Jacob Merxbauer took home a third-place finish in the triple jump as Milbank's Bennett Schwenn won the event.

The Aberdeen Central 1,600 sprint medley team made up of Rohlfs, Carter Dingman, Drew Salfrank and Josh Martin finished third, behind Sioux Falls Jefferson who won the event.

Josh Martin placed third in the 1,600-meter and fifth in the 3,200 meter. Simeon Birnbaum of Rapid City Stevens won both events.
