La La Anthony Opens Up About Divorce, Co-Parenting

“Staying is easier, walking away is harder,” she said in interview with Charlamagne Tha God.

La La Anthony sat down with radio personality Charlamagne Tha God to discuss her divorce from NBA star, Carmelo Anthony.

In an interview for Hollywood Reporter’s series titled Emerging Hollywood, La La was outspoken about the hard choices made in the midst of her June 2021 divorce filing from Carmelo.

“Stepping away from that marriage was such an incredibly hard decision for me,” she said. “Staying is easier. Walking away is harder.”

She spoke about leaving her comfort zone and rebuilding a new way of life. She also said it was easier to stay because their son, Kiyan Carmelo Anthony, knows his parents for being together.

“I was with [Carmelo] when he was 19 years old, like that’s all I’ve known,” she said of Melo, who is now 37.

La La, 39, mentioned that co-parenting with Melo has been “amazing.”

“We want to be a great example to our son. We have open conversations with him. We tell him, ‘You were made from love.’ We’re still a family, and we do things together. We go to his games together. We try to keep it as normal as possible.”

Her goal is to not have their 15-year-old son harbor dysfunctional relationships.

With all the changes coming her way, she maintained a smile on her face, despite her internal turmoil, “but nobody knows what’s going on behind closed doors.”

The couple had been married for 11 years before La La filed for divorce last summer.
