Yankees, Rangers lineups Sunday Game 1 | Tim Locastro on IL; Estevan Florial, Ron Marinaccio called up (5/8/22)

Yankees pitcher Gerrit Cole (45) has worked 12 2/3 shutout innings over his last two starts, wins at home against Cleveland and on the road versus Kansas City.

NEW YORK — The Yankees and Texas Rangers will begin their three-game series on Sunday with a doubleheader at Yankee Stadium following two rainouts in two days.

First pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for 1:05 p.m. The game will be televised by Amazon Prime.

The Yankees made some roster moves before the game, most notably placing spare outfielder/pinch-running specialist Tim Locastro on the 10-day injured list with a left latissimus dorsi strain.

Locastro was replaced on the active roster by rookie reliever Ron Marinaccio, who was recalled from Triple-A. The righty from Toms River, N.J., began the season with the Yankees and allowed five runs over four innings in four appearances in his first big-league action.

Also, the Yankees recalled outfielder Estevan Florial from Triple-A to be their 27-man for the doubleheader.

Florial, 24, was hitting .272 with two homers, nine RBI and a .792 OPS in 22 games with Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. He has 12 games of MLB experience, all for the Yankees since 2020, batting .304 (7-for-23) with one homer and two RBI.

Locastro was batting .231 with one homer, two RBI, 13 runs scored and four steals in 15 games, three as a starter.

The pitching matchup for Game 1 has Yankees righty Gerrit Cole (2-0, 3.00) opposing Rangers right-hander Dane Dunning (1-1, 3.81).
