It was disappointing that the New York Mets didn’t get to play on Saturday. The anniversary of the ratcoon game, Matt Harvey’s bloody nose, and Bartolo Colon’s home run guaranteed something strange was going to occur. Instead, we all spent our nights aimlessly scrolling through our watchlists on the streaming services we have wondering why we’ve bothered adding so much garbage until finally settling on the first thing we can find with over 60% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Meanwhile, out in San Francisco, Giants infielder Wilmer Flores was making sure some Mets weirdness occurred. He had the kind of day only he could have. It started off with a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning against another ex-Mets player, Steven Matz.

Frequent Mets hero Wilmer Flores had himself a day beginning with a granny against Steven Matz

This would have been strange enough for Mets fans waking up from a coma after a couple of years. But Flores didn’t stop there. He had a strange afternoon.

The Giants won this game 13-7 with only 9 hits and help from 3 Cardinals errors. Flores was a major reason as to why the runs outdueled the hits.

The 4 RBI day continued with a sacrifice fly later on and a bases loaded walk near the end of the game. It would have been something if Flores, on a day where some whacky Mets history has taken place in recent years, had a two grand slam game.

With only one hit, Flores managed to secure himself 6 RBI. If there’s anyone who could accomplish something so incredibly rare, it would have to be Flores.

Unfortunately for Matz, the other major ex-Mets player in this game, he only tossed two innings. He allowed 5 hits, 3 walks, 8 earned runs, and 3 home runs. His ERA is now up to 7.01 on the season. It’s looking better and better that Steve Cohen woke up one morning unhappy.
