E-G’s Tom Wilson voted Vice President of Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association

COLUMBUS – The Ohio Prep Sportswriters Association announced its newest officers for their two-year term from May 1, 2022 through April 30, 2024.

The Lancaster Eagle-Gazette’s Tom Wilson was voted as one of three Vice Presidents for the OPSWA along with Jake Furr of the Mansfield News Journal and John Kampf of the Willoughby News Herald.

Wilson has been a sports writer with the Eagle-Gazette since 2013 and before that, was at the Newark Advocate from 2007-2013. He was also the Sports Editor at the Mount Vernon News from 1990-1999. 

Eric Frantz of MaxPreps.com was voted as the OPSWA President for his second term.

The duties of the OPSWA Officers include: 

• Oversee the selection of All-Ohio football and boys and girls basketball teams

• Review membership and new registrations

• Create a process for publicly honoring sportswriters at OHSAA state tournaments

• Assist with the annual writing contest

• Determine membership benefits

• Plan the annual statewide sportswriters meeting

• Have oversight of the OPSWA budget

• Update district media directories for posting on OPSWA website

• Serve on the OPSWA Hall of Fame committee

• Develop a process for future officer selections
