Ky. man charged with kidnapping a child, adult, and meth trafficking

OWINGSVILLE, Ky. (FOX 56) – Owingsville police, and Bath County sheriffs responded to two separate phone calls on Friday.

At around 3 a.m. law enforcement responded to an active domestic call where Matthew Spurlock had been staying, but Spurlock had fled the scene prior to their arrival.

According to Owingsville police, it was determined the victim and her two children were held against their will by Spurlock, who was wielding a handgun and a knife.

The police confirmed Spurlock returned and forced his way back into the residence around 8 p.m., prompting another call to law enforcement. This time, police arrested Spurlock without further incident.

Spurlock was found to be carrying a concealed weapon and a large amount of methamphetamine at the time of his arrest.

Owingsville police confirmed Spurlock was charged with two counts of child kidnapping, one count of adult kidnapping, trafficking a controlled substance, carrying a concealed weapon, violation of an Emergency Protective Order/Domestic Violence Order, and numerous misdemeanors.

Police said Spurlock had been charged with violent crimes and numerous drug crimes in the past and was recently released from jail.

Spurlock was taken to the Rowan County Detention Center.
