Woodson News: Happy Mother’s Day

Wed, 05/04/2022 - 12:00 am

My mom is special. She once walked away from a purchase of a stuffed animal kitty toy because the clerk was rude. She never made any “normal” meals; we had Chop Suey, Beef Stroganoff, lasagna, and spaghetti. (Some may think spaghetti is normal, but not my mom’s; hers was homemade and the best in the world.) Once, she almost stepped up on a horse, but at the last moment thought better of it and descended the stairs we had built. Once, when I was four, she made me get out of the car in the parking lot and direct her out of her space. Another time, she was Peppermint Patty in a play; I hung on her every word, during every performance. She would have gone to school and fought my battles, but she let me instead.

Thank you, Momma, for teaching me ethical behavior. Thank you for teaching me it’s great to be different. Thank you for letting me know that sometimes goals change and one can just go back down the stairs. Thank you for believing in me, even when I was four. Thank you, Momma, for speaking up and speaking out, and teaching me to stand up for what is right. I love you, Momma.

Speaking of moms, several of us Woodson moms are proud. Not only did Woodson take nine athletes to the regional track meet, where most placed, but there are four Woodson kids headed to the state track meet! Please see the article on page 8 for details.
