KBI: Kansas man arrested for the murder of his neighbor

ALLEN COUNTY – The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) and the Allen County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a man connected to the death of Richard Diehl.

Just after 4p.m. Friday, police arrested Raymond D. Maloney, 78, at his residence of 1285 2400th Street in La Harpe, according to a media release from the KBI.. Maloney was arrested on suspicion of first-degree murder connected to the killing of his neighbor 68-year-old Richard Diehl.

On Tuesday, the Allen County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a subject who had located a deceased family member, according to the KBI.

When deputies arrived at 1255 2400th Street in La Harpe, they discovered  Diehl's body. He was pronounced deceased at the scene.

An autopsy was performed. The preliminary autopsy results indicated that the manner of Diehl’s death was homicide.

Maloney was arrested without incident and was then booked into the Allen County Jail.

 Formal charges are expected from Jerry B. Hathaway, Allen County Attorney.
