Flags at half-staff to honor 83-year-old Conejos firefighter who died in line of duty
ALAMOSA, Colo. (KRDO) -- Friday, flags across Colorado were lowered to half-staff to honor an 83-year-old firefighter who died in the line of duty.
According to the Governor's Office, Harold Joe Cordova died Sunday, May 1 while battling a fire in Manassa. Firefighters and law enforcement escorted his body from Conejos County back to Alamosa. Once there, Alamosa and Division of Fire Prevention and Control officers were present to salute his arrival.
Cordova was a longtime Conejos County Fire Board member and the longest-serving firefighter with the Central Conejos County Fire Protection District.
A Funeral Mass of Christian Burial took place Friday at 10 a.m in Conejos. Additionally, Governor Jared Polis ordered flags to be lowered to half-staff on all public buildings from sunrise to sunset.
