McRAE-HELENA, Ga. (WGXA)- It's never too early to teach children about agriculture. That's the philosophy behind a decades-long tradition at one Midstate school.
Telfair County Elementary School held its annual Farm Day today-- and it brought a number of local and state ag leaders to the campus to offer kids a day of fun-filled lessons about Georgia's largest industry.
It's the longest-running event of its kind co-sponsored by the Georgia Farm Bureau.
"You plant the seeds in this, right here, right now, I think it goes a long way . . . to getting them interested and maybe going on to school to do something agriculture-related," said Neal Stanley, who serves as the president of the Telfair County Farm Bureau.
A lot of planning goes into the event that truly brings the community together.
In next week's edition of "On the Farm," we'll hear from the students and teachers about the excitement of this annual tradition and why it means so much not only to the school, but also to the community.
Be sure to catch the Telfair County Elementary School Farm Day edition of "On the Farm" Friday night, May 13 , airing at 10 pm on FOX 24 and at 11 pm on ABC 16.
