GRAYSON COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A Grayson County deputy went above and beyond the call of duty early Tuesday morning when he helped a woman give birth to a baby boy!

According to the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Cpl. Jason Horner responded to Wolf Snare Lane in Fries around 3 a.m. on Tuesday, May 3 to help a pregnant woman.

However, when Horner got to the scene, authorities say he noticed the baby was already crowning. As a result, the deputy ended up delivering the baby, clearing his airway, and tending to the baby and the mother until first responders arrived.

The sheriff’s office says Horner described the incident as “the most stressful 23 minutes of my law enforcement career.”

According to officials, the newborn was flown to a Roanoke hospital, where he is still in intensive care as of Thursday, May 5.

The sheriff’s office says Horner was commended for “a job well done!”
