ORIGINAL STORY

The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch in effect for the northernmost counties of NCWV this afternoon.

The counties affected included Wetzel, Marion, Monongalia, Preston, and Tucker counties.

This comes as showers and thunderstorms could produce enough rainfall to create excessive runoff. The runoff could cause flooding in small creeks and streams, low-lying areas, and other flood-prone locations, along with areas of poor drainage and urban areas.

Right now, it’s a Watch, which means the conditions are in place for flooding, but we have not seen any yet. If, however, flooding is imminent if not already happening, the National Weather Service might issue Flood Warnings. We have no Flood Warnings so far.

Make sure to stay updated with 5 News or the National Weather Service for more information. And if you see an area that is flooded, avoid it. Turn around, don’t drown!

Update (10:00 AM): The National Weather Service in Charleston has now issued Flood Watches for most of NCWV, as showers and thunderstorms today and tonight could cause flooding at creeks and streams, and other low-lying areas. This lasts from 2 PM today to 8 AM tomorrow. Stick with 5 News as we keep you updated!
