Francisco Lindor told reporters after the Mets’ unforgettable 8-7 win on Thursday that be believed something special could be in the making before the team’s seven-run ninth inning even began.

Lindor started to believe when Joe Girardi and the Phillies called on Jeurys Familia in the top of the eighth.

“We just have to score or have people on base,” Lindor said. “Little by little, things start adding up. I believed it…when they brought Fam out, he’s one of their big relievers. I knew they were trying to shut us down. I saw that, I'm like 'alright boys, let's do this. This is gonna be special. And it happened.”

Lindor cranked a two-run home run to cut the deficit to 7-1, and his teammates took it from there, completing the team’s first ninth-inning comeback of that magnitude since 1997.

“A great team win, extremely special,” Lindor said. “The way everybody believed in each other, pushed each other, counted on each other, it’s special for sure.”

The Mets haven’t been playing like a team in need of a boost, surging out of the gate and already sitting comfortably in first place in the NL East, but Lindor still sees Thursday’s win as a launching pad for more success.

“Wins like this, they add up through the course of the year, and they’re huge. They’re huge for a ballclub.”
