Daniel Jones can read the writing on the wall. The quarterback’s days with the New York Giants appear to be numbered after general manager Joe Schoen declined to exercise the team’s fifth-year option on Jones.

So naturally, the next question is: Who will replace Jones? The only Giants quarterback under contract for next season is Tyrod Taylor, and he’s not exactly seen as a long-term solution. So where does that leave Big Blue?

Enter ESPN’s Todd McShay and his “extremely early” first-round mock for the 2023 NFL Draft. McShay believes five quarterbacks will go in the first round, including Kentucky’s Will Levis to the Giants at No. 8 overall.

Levis needs to find more consistency, but he has a live arm and a big 6-foot-3, 232-pound frame. He has thrived in the quick game at Kentucky, with a lot of run-pass options and screen-type stuff, but there are some Josh Allen-like traits here for new Giants coach Brian Daboll. Oh, and Levis connected with receiver Wan’Dale Robinson -- whom the Giants drafted in Round 2 this year -- 104 times last season.

As for the other quarterbacks going in McShay’s first-round mock:

1. Houston Texans: C.J. Stroud, Ohio State

2. Detroit Lions: Bryce Young, Alabama

6. Carolina Panthers: Anthony Richardson, Florida

9. Seattle Seahawks: Tyler Van Dyke, Miami

Just one quarterback was selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft: N.J. native Kenny Pickett, who went to the Pittsburgh Steelers at No. 20 overall.
