HOUSTON -- For a brief moment in time, Detroit Tigers slugger Miguel Cabrera shared a spot on baseball’s all-time ledger with Mr. Tiger, Al Kaline.
Cabrera had two singles on Thursday against the Houston Astros at Minute Maid Park, the 3,006th and 3,007th of his career, tying him with Al Kaline for 31st in baseball history.
Then he added a two-out single in the ninth inning (No. 3,008) to surpass Kaline, who passed away in 2020 at the age of 85.
His widow Louise issued a statement through the Tigers, congratulating Cabrera on behalf of the Kaline family.
“Al had often said that Miguel was the greatest hitter he’d ever seen,” she said. “I know Al would have been the first to congratulate his friend on this accomplishment with a handshake and, of course, a big hug.”
Next up on the list is No. 30 Wade Boggs (3,010 hits) and No. 29 Cap Anson (3,009).
