New York Knicks center Mitchell Robinson seems like he will be an unrestricted NBA free agent this summer. Despite having until June 30th to work out a deal, it sounds as if both sides are very far apart and a deal isn’t going to be made.

The Knicks can offer Robinson a contract for up to four years and $55.6 million. Robinson is likely hoping to cash in, but New York seems hesitant to hand him a long-term deal worth that much money. As a result, Robinson is likely to test the market this season.

There are a few teams that have needs at the center spot that could give Robinson a call. The Charlotte Hornets are a team that makes a lot of sense. The Toronto Raptors and Dallas Mavericks could also be on the lookout for big men this offseason.

Over at Bleacher Report, they believe the Golden State Warriors could be a surprise landing spot for the Louisiana native. Golden State cannot outright sign Mitchell Robinson to a contract, but they could work out a sign-and-trade deal with the New York Knicks for him.

Center could be the most pressing need for the Warriors this offseason. Kevon Looney is heading into free agency and the team has been unable to count on James Wiseman, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. They need someone that can help them win games now, and Robinson would fit the bill.

While his offensive game hasn’t developed, Robinson is a threat as a roller to the basket. He plays well above the rim, as almost all of his offense comes on put-back dunks and alley-oops. That is all the Golden State Warriors would need him for with Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, Jordan Poole, and Andrew Wiggins working on the perimeter and Draymond Green running the show.

Mitchell Robinson is an improved rebounder and is an excellent shot-blocker as well. He provides a good anchor and last line of defense. He isn’t the most comfortable on the perimeter, but Green is more than capable of compensating for any shortcomings on that end of the court.

To complete the sign-and-trade, could Golden State be willing to move on from Wiseman? He has immense potential, but the Golden State Warriors cannot afford to wait for him to unlock it. New York hasn’t been the most patient with developmental players either, but they are in a better position to allow him to grow than the Warriors are.

That would be an excellent addition for the New York Knicks, who have an intriguing group of young players on the roster that would be brought to another level by Wiseman.
