DERRY TOWNSHIP, MONTOUR COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — More questions and concerns arise after a Columbia County Home Building Company abruptly closed last week.
Customers want to know if they will get their money returned or somehow have their homes most of which only have finished foundations.
Customers we spoke with say they are really in a financial bind because of the closure of Vision Home Builders. The company sent an email to customers last week saying it had no choice but to close its doors due in large part because of the negative financial impact caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“I shook his hand the day we signed our contract. I’m from the old school where a handshake is worth a thousand words,” said Robert Morgan-Customer of Vision Home Builder
So says Robert morgan who now feels betrayed by the owners of vision home builders.
We met with Robert and his wife Carol in a field in Derry Township near Washingtonville in Montour county. This is where they hoped to have their new home, built by Vision Home Builders.The morgan say they gave the company a total of $50,000 and have nothing to show for it. Their concerns heightened in mid-April when they had a conversation with a manager at Vision Home Builders.
“When they told us they couldn’t get an excavator so we waited and I called numerous times. They kept saying we still don’t have an excavator to be patient with us. We were for about a week. I knew something was suspicious. Then I started sending emails contacting them getting nowhere,” said Carol Morgan, customer of Vision Home Builders
Vision Home Builders closed about two weeks later. They were never notified by the company and say this is a big financial hit for them.
“Basically my husband and I are retired we have medical issues and $50,000 dollars is a lot of money to us at this time in our life,” said Carol Morgan.
The Morgan’s joined with other customers trying to recoup the money they gave the Vision Home Builders, they are also looking at possibly filing a class-action lawsuit against the company.
As we reported earlier this week other Vision Home Builders customers showed us their properties. Where only foundations are in place. They too say they are out tens of thousands of dollars.
Robert Morgan explained to Eyewitness News that he was optimistic about having a home in here in the future. “Yeah, at some point in time. You know hopefully we both live long enough afterward we still have it.”
Eyewitness News spoke to Columbia County District Attorney Tom Liepold who says customers should reach out to the State Attorney General’s Bureau of Consumer Protection which will look into their complaints and decide if any civil action can be taken against the company. We again reached out to vision home builders seeking comment but have not heard back..
