Lilburn (Ga.) Parkview wide receiver Mike Matthews continues to blow up on the recruiting trail, with Texas A&M becoming the latest program to extend him an offer this afternoon.

Matthews is the No. 65 overall prospect in the 2024 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 12 wide receiver and the No. 13 sophomore prospect in Georgia.

The 6-foot-2, 170-pounder was also a Georgia Region 4-AAAAAAA selection as a wide receiver this fall. He hauled in 48 passes for 764 yards and seven touchdowns, and he is also a standout on the basketball floor.

However, after focusing on trying to play both sports at the college level, Matthews told On3’s Jeremy Johnson he is going to focus on football recruiting.

“A lot of programs talk to me about football and basketball, but I’m pretty much in it with football,” Matthews said. “Basketball has always been a home to me. I’m pretty sure I’ll end up playing football.”

Are early favorites starting to separate for Mike Matthews?

It’s still early in Matthews’ recruitment. Even still, Matthews has been impressed by three programs early on. Clemson, Georgia and Notre Dame are schools Matthews rattled off when asked about schools that stand out to him.

Neither Georgia nor Clemson has offered Matthews as of now.

Notre Dame recently extended an offer. The Notre Dame coaching staff has taken little time getting to know Matthews. The four-star says he and the Fighting Irish talk multiple times a week. He and defensive backs coach Chris O’Leary are in the early stages of a strong relationship, he told Johnson.

Georgia Tech, Auburn and Arkansas are among the other schools vying for his eventual commitment, though it appears the competition is starting to really heat up.
