CBS renews The Equalizer for 2 more seasons after killing off Chris Noth character

Queen Latifah's The Equalizer has been renewed for seasons 3 and 4.

Get ready to officially see more of Queen Latifah: On Thursday, CBS announced that it has renewed the hit drama The Equalizer for both a third and fourth season.

The two season renewal — which takes the series through at least 2024 — comes after the departure of series regular Chris Noth, who played ex-CIA director William Bishop, a mentor to Latifah's Robyn McCall. Noth was fired from the show in December following allegations of sexual assault from numerous women. His final episode appearance was in January, which was filmed prior to the allegations coming to light, and the character was officially written off in an April episode where he was killed in a plane crash orchestrated by McCall's old nemesis Mason Quinn (Chris Vance).

Following Noth's departure, The Equalizer set new showrunners to succeed series creators Andrew W. Marlow and Terri Edda Miller, announcing that Joseph C. Wilson and Adam Glass would take over the roles.

"The Equalizer continues to pack a powerful punch on Sunday nights, and we're thrilled to have it back for two more seasons," Thom Sherman, CBS Entertainment's Senior EVP of Programming, said in a statement. "The success of The Equalizer is due to the sum of its parts – an outstanding cast led by the superb Queen Latifah, plus the exceptional creative team that has continued to evolve their storytelling with a compelling mix of everyday justice, family dynamics and real-world issues that connect and resonate with audiences."

Latifah spoke about the renewal on Thursday during CBS Mornings, praising the show for being bold enough to "take topics that were ripped from the headlines and really deal with them."

"We're not afraid to touch anything," Latifah said of the series, where she's also an executive producer. "It's important to talk about these subjects and see some justice met and I think that's what people have gravitated to."
