With that being case, all of the offices in the building have been relocated for the time being.
Jury trials are now taking place in the former Maritz building on North Baltimore Street in Kirksville.
Through this month, trials will only take place on the east side of the building.
Next month, trials will take place on each side of the building.
Rent through May is $7,500, which increases to $8,333 in June when the lease for the entire building starts.
Some viewers have wondered why American Rescue Plan funding is not being used to help pay for the rent.
"Well, we're not going to rule out that we could do that," Shahan said. "There's some guidelines though for that money and right now we don't really feel like that should be paid with that money. I'm not saying that we'll never do that but we're looking at a lot of the projects that we want to do in the county with that money. Something that will last for many, many years and not just, you might want to think paying for rent is throwing it away."
KTVO has also learned a positive update on the courthouse project.
We will have that story next week.
