Pete Patnode of Onondaga Hill, and his fishing pal, John ‘Kid’ Corbett of Westvale, each caught their limit (3) of walleye on a recent night-fishing outing on Otisco Lake.

The two retired Syracuse cops started casting stickbaits from Otisco’s eastern shoreline shortly after 8 p.m., using a Storm ThunderStick in pearl ghost flash pattern and a Rapala Shadowrap in purpledescent pattern. It was rainy and windy, but the men limited out in two hours.

Pete Patnode of Onondaga Hill and his fishing buddy, Kid Corbett, caught these walleye recently on Otisco Lake. Note the meatier girth on these fish compared to Oneida Lake walleye.

The walleye all measured between 20-23.5 inches, with meatier girths compared to many of the walleye anglers have been pulling out of Oneida Lake since the season opened last Sunday. That’s just an anecdotal observation. But according to Cornell University researchers, Oneida Lake walleyes measured in the fall have in fact been growing skinny over the past three years.
