Bramley’s Slam, Tierney’s Blast Lift Mount Baseball Over George Mason

EMMITSBURG, Md. (May 4, 2022) – Senior catcher Thomas Bramley hit a grand slam, and sophomore Aiden Tierney belted the go-ahead home run as Mount St. Mary's baseball took an 11-10 victory over George Mason Wednesday.

The victory gives the Mount its 12th of the season.

Bramley and Tierney registered three hits each, with two of Bramley's shots landing over the fence. The catcher pushes his dinger total up to 10. The duo were responsible for driving in eight of the team's 11 runs, with Tyler Long, Tristan McAlister and Shane Wockley adding one apiece.

Mountaineer pitching struck out 11 Patriots, led by Bryant Shives with seven. Reliever Blake Beal earned the win and closed out the contest with 1 1/3 innings scoreless.

George Mason took the early lead with four runs in the first and second innings. Mount St. Mary's managed to stay close behind with one run in each frame. In the third, the Mount's offense erupted. Loading the bases, a free pass to McAlister and a beaning of Wockley tied the score. After two outs recorded, Bramley stepped up to the plate. The first offering from Diego Barrett sailed over the right field fence for an 8-4 Mount advantage.

Each team traded a score to bring the game to 9-5 after six innings. Mason made their comeback in the seventh. A two-out rallied culminated with a triple from Connor Dykstra to pull the Patriots within one. Leading off the eighth, Alex Knapp homered to level the score. Later in the frame, an error allowed GMU to take the lead back.

In the bottom of the eighth, Bramley surprised the Patriots with a bunt single. Two batters later, Tierney came to bat and drew a 1-0 count. The second pitch found the sweet spot as the designated hitter pelted the pitch over the left field wall.

A groundout, strikeout and a popup to the catcher provided the outs needed to preserve the win.

Mount St. Mary's travels to Sacred Heart May 6th-8th.
