Missing utility worker found safe near Elk City

An Avista Utilities worker who had been missing near Elk City was found early Wednesday morning.

According to a news release from the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, dispatchers received a call around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday that 56-year-old Ken Vopat, who was working in the American River area, hadn’t been seen since noon.

Idaho County deputies searched the area and when there was a break in the weather they launched a drone. Vopat was located about 3:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The Sheriff’s Office reported he appeared to be exhibiting the beginning of hypothermia but was otherwise in good health.
