On April 20th, US Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg, made a visit to Operating Engineers Local 139 in Coloma to promote skilled workers as the Biden Administration says Wisconsin is expected to get more than five billion dollars over the next five years, just for roads and bridges.

To get this job done Wisconsin will need more skilled workers. Secretary Buttigieg says this is a once in a generation opportunity to build America’s future with a workforce that reflects all of America.

Secretary Buttigieg had the chance to operate several units of the heavy equipment while at Operating Engineers.  He said he came to the site in Coloma to experience and use the big machines.

Many high school students were on hand for the visit where Secretary Buttigieg encouraged them to get into the building trades and take advantage of all that is offered at Operating Engineers Local 139 in Coloma.  The training is right here and the pay and benefits offered to workers makes for a bright future.

“Because we’re creating so many jobs, that we need everybody’s help, talent and participation, not just because it’s  the right thing to do from an equity and justice perspective, but also because that’s what it’s going to take to actually deliver all of these projects,” Secretary Buttigieg said.
