A man accused of illegally entering a residence and assaulting the occupant has been arrested in Edmonson County.

On Tuesday night at approximately 6:00, Edmonson County deputies were dispatched to the 2700 block of Chalybeate Road on the report of burglary and assault.

While en route, deputies encountered a Honda traveling at a high rate of speed with the flashers on, according to media reports. One deputy continued to the Chalybeate Road residence while the other deputy conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.

Upon making contact with the driver, police learned the burglary suspect, 25-year-old Garry L. Foley, had been a passenger in the car and had suffered a cut to his arm while he was assaulting the occupant of the Chalybeate Road residence.

Foley, though, had exited the vehicle and fled into a wooded area near the intersection of Hwy 259 and Hwy 101 prior to police stopping the Honda.

Deputies located Foley in the wooded area, media reports indicate, but he continued to flee on foot. He was found about two hours later with the assistance of a tracking dog. He was transported to The Medical Center at Bowling Green for treatment for a deep cut to his arm.

Further investigation showed Foley had arrived at the residence on Chalybeate Road, where he formally resided and had recently moved out, and entered the home. The current resident returned to the home and discovered Foley inside.

An altercation ensued, with Foley assaulting the resident. In the process, the suspect cut his arm when he punched a window.

After receiving medical attention, Foley was arrested and charged with fleeing or evading police (on foot), third-degree burglary, fourth-degree assault (domestic violence), third-degree criminal mischief, and alcohol intoxication in a public place. He was additionally served with an emergency protective order.

Foley was lodged in the Hart County Jail but is no longer listed as an inmate.
