Barnes found guilty of murder

A man accused of killing his fiance in the summer of 2020 has been found guilty of first-degree murder.
A Saunders County Court on Tuesday found Kolton Barnes guilty in the stabbing death of 27-year-old Kayla Matulka in July of 2020.
Authorities arrested Barnes after the discovery of Matulka’s body in her Malmo home. The couple’s dog, Diesel, was also found stabbed to death.
Investigators said at the time that Barnes killed Matulka and Diesel, leaving the bodies for Matulka’s young children to find.
The couple’s online wedding announcement said they were set to marry in October of 2020.
Barnes is scheduled to be sentenced on July 18.
