On Wednesday morning the Blackhawks announced defenseman Connor Murphy as the organization’s nominee for the King Clancy Trophy, an honor awarded annually “to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.”
The winner is chosen by select members of the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association and the NHL Broadcasters’ Association. No Blackhawks player has ever won the King Clancy Trophy.

Murphy, 29, was also the team’s nominee last year. He finished the 2021-22 season on injured reserve.
Chicago acquired Murphy (with Laurent Dauphin) in the 2017 trade that sent Niklas Hjalmarsson to the Arizona Coyotes. Since becoming a member of the Blackhawks, Murphy has appeared in 293 regular-season games and averaged 19:56 per night.
He begins a four-year contract extension with the Hawks next season that carries a $4.4 million cap hit.
The @NHL has announced the 32 nominees for the 2021-22 King Clancy Memorial Trophy, presented “to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.”
