FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ala. (WBMA/WKRC) - An Alabama sheriff's office says a woman was killed by a "pack of dangerous dogs" on Friday, after she went to a home to follow up on a reported dog attack from earlier in the week.
According to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office, the dogs' owner, 39-year-old Brady Dowdy, was arrested, accused of manslaughter. Dowdy will also face charges for violating Alabama's dangerous dog law (Emily's Law). She's being held in the Franklin County Jail without bail, according to records.
When deputies arrived to check on a report of an unknown vehicle they saw several dogs attacking people. Shannon Oliver, the sheriff of Franklin County, told AL.com, there were seven dogs. One person was injured and some of those dogs were euthanized immediately.
Deputies then found the body of Jacqueline Summer Beard, an Alabama Department of Public Health employee. The 58-year-old Beard was there to investigate an incident reported to Franklin County Animal Control in which a woman was attacked and seriously injured by a pack of dogs just days earlier.
It is believed that Beard was attacked and killed as she was attempting to contact Dowdy.
