Kansas City civic leader and former city council member Alvin Brooks celebrated his 90th birthday Tuesday.
Friends, family and community leaders gathered to celebrate him at the Kansas City Museum.
Brooks created the Ad Hoc Group Against Crime in the late 1970s. Before that, he served as a police officer, city council member, assistant city manager and mayor pro tem.
"We're one city. It's not the north or south or the east or the west or Black or white or brown or yellow or red or Protestant or Catholic or Jewish or Muslim or whatever the case might be. We're all in this together. I would hope that we would understand that. We're brothers and sisters whether we want to be or not," Brooks said.
There is a display on Brooks' life inside the Kansas City Museum this month.
