FAST X (2023): Louis Leterrier is Now In The Director’s Chair as Budget Balloons to $300 Million

Louis Leterrier is Now Directing Fast X as Film’s Budget Increases Steadily

Justin Lin has been replaced by Louis Leterrier as the director of Fast X while the movie’s budget skyrockets to $300 million.

Just as French director Louis Leterrier (Now You See Me) has assumed directing duties on Fast X, the movie has reportedly seen the budget increasing significantly. In fact, it had been costing $1 million per day to keep things in moderation while the search for Justin Lin’s replacement took place. Now, things are starting to get set for Leterrier to do his thing and helm the much anticipated Fast X which has a reported budget of $300 million.

It was reported that Leterrier replaced Lin because of the uneasy state of the relationship between Justin Lin and Vin Diesel which was apparently on shaky ground. Rumors surfaced that Vin Diesel was trying to change the script and had some unprofessional tendencies. All these rumors have not officially been confirmed by the parties involved, however.

Over $100 million will go to the salaries of the high-profile cast of Fast X which includes its star player, Vin Diesel. Let’s face it–you can’t bring Jason Momoa and Academy Award winner Brie Larson into the mix without paying the price even if Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson isn’t even around anymore. This is not the best business strategy for a highly profitable movie but it is what it is. Oscar winner Charlize Theron also doesn’t come cheap either for those wondering who else is in the star studded cast. Let’s not mention the cost of any surprise cameos the film could have in store for viewers.

25 years ago, Titanic made headlines when its budget was around $200 million. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet were hardly huge stars at the time so the money was almost all on-screen in ways other than paying for its cast. While, this time out, it’s almost certain the remainder of the budget’s cash (approximately $200 million) will be going towards high costing car chase scenes as well as Fast X’s talented supporting players, the movie may suffer from overkill. There’s just too much talent jam packed into this high costing event picture.

Nevertheless, feelings are optimistic that Fast X will be hugely successful. It has all the ingredients of yet another huge blockbuster, it’s just that those domestic opening weekend grosses will be largely spent paying off the bills of the salaries paid to the film’s stars. Still, the remaining weeks of the film’s business coupled with the international grosses the film will likely obtain should make it all worthwhile. Leterrier’s fans are looking forward to seeing what the action director can do with the material and all are wondering if the French filmmaker can fill Justin Lin’s shoes. At $300 million total costs for the movie (so far), Leterrier will certainly need to have what it takes to make the movie “drive” up box-office grosses.
