After the contract extension for Thomas Muller was confirmed on Tuesday, Bayern Munich will now focus on concluding negotiations with Manuel Neuer. The German international is also expected to extend the contract until the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

Neuer has been reportedly keen on extending his stay in Bavaria. The German goalkeeper wants to spend the remaining years of his career as the number one of Die Roten. It was a matter of sorting out the right deal for Die Roten since the player was keen on staying at the club.

The contract extension of Neuer will affect the future of Alexander Nubel. The young German goalkeeper has been tipped to succeed Neuer in the long run at the Bavarian club. However, Nubel’s plans are likely to change if Neuer puts pen to paper on a contract extension.

While talking to Spox this week, Nubel hinted at a permanent transfer away from Die Roten if Neuer signs a contract extension. Neuer is expected to play regularly in the next couple of years if he signs a new deal, so Nubel believes that there is no point in staying in Bavaria.

"“If he’s still there, it doesn’t make sense for me to come back.”"

Bayern had beaten competition from several clubs to sign Alexander Nubel on a free transfer from Schalke in 2020. The German goalkeeper is considered one of the promising goalkeeping talents in German football. His representatives confirmed that Die Roten provided the best overall package to clinch his signing.

However, things didn’t go as per plans for Nubel in his debut season at Die Roten. He got limited opportunities as Neuer played most of the games across all competitions. Nubel doesn’t have regrets about his first season at Bayern since it was too good an opportunity to turn down.

Alexander Nubel was sent out on a two-year-long loan to Monaco after a disappointing debut season in Bavaria. He has been playing regularly for the French club this season, so he is expected to spend next year in Ligue 1. It does look like Rekordmeister also has no plans to terminate the deal at the halfway stage.

Die Roten still sees Nubel as a long-term replacement for Neuer, so some sort of arrangement will be needed to convince the young shot-stopper to stay at the club. In an ideal scenario, Neuer’s playing time decreases after the next season, and Nubel gets satisfactory amount of playing time. This possible solution will make sure that all parties are satisfied.
