CARROLL COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — A man lost his life in Carroll County Monday morning after a deer hit the side of his car, sending him right into the path of a tractor-trailer.

Virginia State Police say they responded to the two-vehicle crash at approximately 5:07 a.m. on Monday, May 2 along Route 221 (Floyd Pike), nearly a quarter-mile north of Route 100.

According to authorities, a 2008 Chevrolet HHR was traveling north on Route 221 when a deer struck the passenger’s side and caused it to cross the center line. However, a 2022 International tractor-trailer was heading south along that road and could not avoid colliding with the HHR.

The driver of the HHR — identified by police as 46-year-old Randall L. Semones of Hillsville — was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene of the crash.

Meanwhile, the driver of the tractor-trailer, 45-year-old Bradley A. Bazin of Floyd, was wearing his seatbelt and was not hurt in the collision, according to officials.

As of this writing, Virginia State Police are still investigating this deadly crash.
