While Joy Behar may not have secured a seat the the White House Correspondents Dinner, that didn’t stop her from chiming in on Washington’s biggest night. The View cohost pitted former president Donald Trump against President Joe Biden on Monday morning when she compared their respective senses of humor at the annual event — or in Trump’s case, lack thereof.

The White House Correspondents Dinner, which took place Saturday evening in D.C., marked the first time since 2019 that celebrities and politicians mingled at the “nerd prom.” While the president always attends the event, Trump broke tradition in 2017 by refusing to go, and Behar hasn’t forgotten.

“To make Washington laugh is hard,” Behar admitted, before giving props to Biden for laughing at his own expense.

“I also was impressed with Joe Biden — his response to the material … when they were trashing him, or roasting him, rather, he was laughing his head off, which shows you that he’s mentally stable,” she quipped. “As opposed to, years ago, if you remember, when Obama took a shot at — a joke — at Trump.”

Behar then pulled up a photo comparing a stone-faced Trump with a jovial Biden. Trump’s furious reaction to then-President Obama’s joke at the 2011 White House Correspondent’s Dinner has gone down in infamy; while  Obama joked about Hawaii releasing his birth certificate and proving his citizenship, Trump sat in the audience frowning.

“No one is happier, no one is prouder, to put this birth certificate matter to rest than The Donald. And that’s because he can finally get back to focusing on the issues that matter, like: did we fake the moon landing? What really happened in Roswell? And where are Biggie and Tupac?” Obama joked onstage at the time.

Behar compared Trump’s clear discomfort with Biden’s ease, saying, “There’s the difference, you see: Biden is laughing at his low ratings, he’s laughing at old jokes, and Trump is ticked off and plotting his revenge. That’s the difference between the two presidents.”

Co-host Ana Navarro, who attended the event, pointed out that Trump didn’t attend the White House Correspondents Dinner for years because of his inability to stomach a joke about himself.

“He boycotted this dinner his entire term because he doesn’t have, he can’t laugh at himself,” she said. “He has no ability to be self-deprecating.”
