Senator Rusch explains the rules for the impeachment trial of Jason Ravnsborg

VERMILLION, S.D.(WNAX)- The South Dakota Senate will be operating with a special set of rules when the Impeachment trial of Attorney General Jason Ravnsborg is held next month.

Senator Art Rusch of Vermillion says they won’t use standard criminal court procedures.

Rusch, a retired circuit court judge, says each side will have time to present and rebut arguments.

Rusch says there are also exceptions to the special rules.

Rusch say its important that all Senators be present for the trial.

Rusch says he will go through the evidence and state laws before the trial starts.

Rusch says he doesn’t think Senators have to reach a decision “beyond a reasonable doubt” when they vote.

The Senate has set aside two days for the trial which will begin on June twenty first.
