Cincinnati Reds outfielder Shogo Akiyama (4) watches the game from the dugout in the second inning of a baseball game against the Washington Nationals, Thursday, Sept. 23, 2021, at Great American Ball Park in Cincinnati.

Cincinnati Reds fans who wanted so badly for Shogo Akiyama to hit a home run will be happy to know he has now hit three in about two weeks - not in a Reds uniform but for the San Diego Padres' Triple-A El Paso Chihuahuas.

Akiyama was homerless in 366 regular-season appearances over parts of two seasons as an outfielder with the Reds. On Wednesday night, the Chihuahuas tweeted video of the homer Akiyama launched:

The Padres announced days earlier that Akiyama agreed to a Minor League deal with the team.

The Reds announced April 5 that they released Akiyama, who hit .224 for the Reds. The team had informed him two days earlier that he would not make its Opening Day roster.

Akiyama turned 34 in April.
