Even though Newcastle United shelled out around £90 million in transfer fees in January, the club are yet to make a ‘statement’ signing since the change in ownership. Many fans will be expecting one to be made in the summer though, as The Magpies are set to continue their rebuild. Could that man turn out to be Paulo Dybala?

Dybala has been considered as one of the biggest talents in Europe for a long time without ever managing to take that step to superstardom despite being on the verge of it on several occasions. Many believe that Juventus’ decision to sign Cristiano Ronaldo ended up having a negative impact on his development.

Dybala’s current deal with Juventus runs out this summer though and with no extension agreed between the club and the player till now, it looks like the Argentine’s stint in Turin will be over at the end of this season. And it appears Newcastle United could swoop in.

As reported by Football Insider, Newcastle United have submitted a blockbuster offer for Dybala. The Magpies are believed to be willing to make the Argentine the highest-ever paid player in the history of the club and a deal worth more than £200,000-a-week is on the table.

Can Newcastle United sign Dybala in the summer?

Despite some of his recent struggles at Juventus, there is no question about the talent and ability of Dybala and if Newcastle United are able to sign him, especially as a free agent, it would be considered as a major coup on their part as well as a statement of intent.

There will be no lack of interest in Dybala’s signature in the summer though with several other clubs in the Premier League, like Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal, also being linked with the Argentine once considered the heir to Lionel Messi in their national team.

Overall, even in this season, Dybala’s record for Juventus has been pretty good. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 14 goals and provided 6 assists in 34 appearances and 2237 minutes on the pitch.

Also, at 28 years of age, he should be in the middle of his prime as a footballer. But at the same time, there are question marks about whether he would be the right fit in the Premier League.
