Hot Meals USA based in Kearney is now feeding all firefighters fighting the Furnas and Red Willow County fire.
The non-profit organization is cooking breakfast and dinners, and they are serving between 300 and 350 meals per day.
In those two meals the non-profit is trying to have a total of 2,000 calories. They put out a call for four volunteers each meal, and always get about 12 people willing to help.
"We do breakfast, so people have to be here by 5 a.m. to help us start cooking, every time we have had meals so far, we have more than enough volunteers," said Hot Meals USA Founder Richard "Dick" Cochran. "This community really supports one another."
Cochran said many different private businesses and places like the Phelps Community Hospital in Holdrege, as well as the Kearney Regional Medical Center have reached out to Hot Meals USA and provided funds to them.
"Our goal is to feed people when they are in trouble," Cochran said.
Cochran said the non-profit will be in Cambridge until Sunday, but depending on the fire situation, their stay there can change.
