Three members of the Ontario Reign were named to the First and Second AHL All-Star Teams on Thursday.
T.J. Tynan and Jordan Spence were named to the AHL All-Star First Team, while Martin Frk was named to the Second. All three had tremendous seasons with the Ontario Reign.
T.J. Tynan and Jordan Spence make the AHL All-Star First Team
T.J. Tynan’s stat line: 61 games, 14 goals, 84 assists, 98 points, +12 rating, 1.61 points-per-game
Jordan Spence’s stat line: 46 games, 4 goals, 38 assists, 42 points, +18 rating, 0.91 points-per-game
T.J. Tynan had a phenomenal season in his first year with the Ontario Reign. After two seasons with the Colorado Eagles, Tynan signed as a free agent with the Reign this past summer. With one game remaining, Tynan has 84 assists which is five assists shy of tying George “Red” Sullivan’s record in the 1953-1954 season. Tynan is currently one point behind Chicago Wolves forward Andrew Poturalski, who also made the First Team for the lead in scoring.
Jordan Spence also had a great season in his first professional season. On Wednesday, Spence was named to the AHL All-Rookie Team. You can add him to the AHL All-Star First Team now as well. While being on the third defense pair in the season opener, Spence didn’t get his opportunity until late November when Sean Durzi got called up to the LA Kings. After Durzi’s call-up, Spence was placed on both the first power play unit and top defense pair. He took off from there and never looked back. His 38 assists and 24 power play assists are ranked first among rookie defensemen.
Martin Frk makes the AHL All-Star Second Team
Martin Frk’s stat line: 58 games, 40 goals, 33 assists, 73 points, +16 rating, 1.26 points-per-game
It was a big year for the Ontario Reign winger as Martin Frk netted 40 goals this season in 58 games. Unfortunately for Frk, those numbers weren’t good enough to make the First Team. Chicago Wolves forward Stefan Noesen, who scored 46 goals in 69 games, was named to the AHL All-Star First Team over Frk. Both players had a great season with their respective teams, so it was a tough choice to make. Perhaps Frk takes being snubbed from the First Team as motivation and has a great playoff run for the Ontario Reign.
