Stratton golfers eighth at Yuma

In a season filled with less than ideal weather conditions, the Stratton Lady Eagles continue to battle tough courses and Mother Nature.
Last Friday, they hit the links at the Yuma Invitational, where they finished eighth in the team race.
Six shots separated the top four teams, with Holyoke taking the title with a final tally of 315. Brush (319), Washington County (320), and Burlington (321) finished second through fourth. Stratton posted a final score of 386.
As tight as the team chase was, the individual fight was even closer. Holyoke’s Emma Thompson won the event after shooting a 96. That was only one shot better than second place. Third place was one more shot back, and fourth place shot a 99.
In total, just 15 strokes separated Thompson from the 10th-place finisher.
Clare Miltenberger was the top finisher for Stratton, as the freshman shot a 125. Jessica Brandon was 26th overall, five shots back of Miltenberger. MaKayla Shean ended up 28th after losing a tiebreaker for 27th after she shot a 131. Piper Witzel was the 34th-place finisher, as she carded a 167.
The junior varsity tournament was canceled due to the weather conditions.
Stratton is off until Friday, when the Lady Eagles travel to Akron for the Washington County Invitational.
