We now reportedly know what the Jets offered for Deebo Samuel, and it wasn’t exactly the king’s ransom that some speculated.

According to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, the Jets offered the 49ers the No. 10 pick in the draft and a “pick swap later” for Samuel. As we saw earlier on Thursday evening, San Francisco elected not to accept that offer.

There was, however, a top tier receiver traded on Thursday, also represented by Deebo’s agent, when A.J. Brown was acquired by the Eagles for the No. 18 and No. 101 pick. More interesting, however, is the extension that the Eagles signed Brown to; $100 million over the next four years. That’s an average annual value of $25 million, widely speculated to be what Deebo is looking for.

If that’s what Deebo wants, his leverage to get it took a hit on Thursday. If the 49ers believe he is worth less, there is little recourse for Deebo, who could decide to hold out but would face financial penalties. If he were not to sign an extension with the 49ers this offseason, he might also be missing on a moment to sign when his market value may be the highest.

There is still a possibility that the 49ers could move Samuel, but it’s overwhelmingly likely that San Francisco will work to mend this relationship and come to a long-term agreement with Samuel this offseason.
