Today, we’re entering the final week in a three-week celebration of Off The Road, marking a second anniversary of the series this month! Off The Road started when the pandemic cratered the entertainment touring industry, which often provided guests prior to the start of what would be Off The Road, in April 2020. The series has gone on to be a regular music feature, including artists who have returned to touring.

To celebrate, three remarkable guitarists join us.

HPR All Things Considered Host Dave Lawrence welcomed back guitar monster Joe Satriani for his second appearance on Off The Road, and then a guy making his third visit on Off The Road, John McLaughlin. Today, it’s a debut, and an artist who will offer an exclusive musical performance tomorrow: The Doors Robby Krieger! He joined us from his house in Southern California, and his appearance follows our Off The Road interview with Doors drummer John Densmore last year.

Today we start two days of storytelling from his recent book, Set The Night On Fire. We learn about his first ever audition to join The Doors, his parents’ initial meetings with the late legendary Doors singer Jim Morrison, the time Jim stayed at his parents’ house for three weeks with Robby and his Grandpa Fred, the historic New Haven incident, and the many covers of their hit Light My Fire, along with Jim’s reaction to one of the versions he really liked!

Tomorrow we’ll hear about Robby’s remarkable flight over to the 1970 Isle of Wight Festival in the UK, unique bills they performed with people like Simon and Garfunkel, and some incredible stories about The Doors trips to Hawaiʻi! Making it even more special, Robby will break out a guitar he recorded a Doors classic with, and play a little on it, for an exclusive musical performance! We’ll also post the complete new interview.
