BIRD FLU CASES HAVE BEEN FNDOU IN SIX NEBRASKA COUNTIES IN THE STATE SO FAR. THE USDA SAYS MORE THAN TWO DOZEN STATES HAVE REPORTED

The Nebraska Department of Agriculture identified an eighth of case of bird flu Thursday.A small backyard mixed flock in Washington County is the site of the eighth case. NDA State Veterinarian Dr. Roger Dudley said the farm has been quarantined and the birds will be humanely depopulated and disposed of in an approved manner. The NDA adds as we USDA policy a 6.2- mile surveillance zone will be set up around the affected area.NDA wants to remind any and all poultry producers in the are or outside of it that if your birds show any signs or symptoms of HPAI, you should contact them immediately. A list of symptoms can be seen below. The NDA has also been notified of a case of bird flu found in a backyard flock in Kansas. The surveillance zone for this flock does extend into Nuckolls County in Nebraska. Symptoms of HPAI in poultry include: a decrease in water consumptionlack of energy and appetitedecreased egg production or soft-shelled, misshapen eggs nasal dischargecoughingsneezingincoordinationdiarrheaThe NDA adds that bird flu (HPAI) can also cause sudden death in birds even if they aren’t showing any other symptoms. Bird flu can survive for weeks in contaminated environments.
